Are we doing just TOO MUCH????

Another blogger, Nuzzling Muzzles, was commenting on her day yesterday and it was pretty hectic! My aunt asked me the other day, "Are you just doing TOO MUCH?" and "Is that why you aren't getting over your bronchitis?"
Er, uh, yes! Let's see...I work a full time job and am grade level leader, which means I have additional responsibilities at school. I leave home at 6:30 a.m. and crawl back home about 4:30 or 5:00 p.m. I have 3 dogs to take care of, including our German Shepherd, with a skin condition. The latest vet thinks he has a yeast infection and now an accompaning bacterial skin infection, so yesterday, after I left school at 4:30 p.m., I drove 80 mph home on the freeway, suddenly realizing that I needed to give him his medicated bath, while it was still warm, since a rain storm is moving into the valley. Oye vei! I threw off my shirt, grabbed an old T-shirt, hosed him off, got the medicated shampoo on him, let it sit for 15 minutes (and let my blood prssure calm down!), and then hosed him off. I had visited another school yesterday morning, and I had to type up my notes for my colleagues and I never got around to that. Hubby cooked dinner of chicken and pasta and I devoured it and a FULL glass of red wine! Phew! So, between work, dogs, horses, cats that don't get along, paying bills, doing ALL the yard work around here, AND TRYING to recover from bronchitis, YEA, I'm overextended! Fortunately, I have a 4-day weekend coming up, but I'm already fighting another sore throat, which means I'll probably be sick the entire Presidents' Day vacation. Yes, these two actually shared my chair this morning. It wasn't always that peaceful...a few moments before I snapped this pic, they were fighting and hissing. Go figure! Oh, the bronchitis is back, too. I think it's from all the stress! :-(

I don't know if I am interpreting this right, but I hope they pay you extra for taking on that extra responsibility at work. My experience in teaching was that every teacher was required to keep a substitute kit with instructions on what to do and where to look for things. Lesson plans were mapped out at least a month in advance, materials were gathered the night before, disciplinary systems were explained, so no one needed to help the substitute. A teacher was always prepared for sick days, so the onus was never put on other teachers who were busy with their own classrooms.

We are trying to do too much. I've noticed that since I've been laid off, other people keep giving me more unpaid work to do. But the biggest problem is just all the unexpected responsibilities the crop up each day forcing the planned responsibilities onto the back burner.
